Tips: Moving with Pallets
If moving only a few items or if you have many smaller items, your goods may be transported on a pallet, stretch-wrapped together and moved as a single cubed unit.
A pallet is a wooden portable platform normally measuring approximately 40 inches x 48 inches and 6 inches in height.
This is the most economical means of moving your goods and your cost is based on how much space (cubic feet) you actually use.
Pallet Loading Tips
When using pallets for moving, please keep in mind the following information:
- Package your items well. Contain your items in boxes whenever possible.
- Boxes provide additional protection for your goods and can be moved and stacked easily, making the load more stable and reducing the possibility of movement and damage.
- If you have items that will not fit into a box, package these with sturdy packing materials. Depending on the item, these could be large pieces of cut cardboard secured around and over edges with tape, blankets or quilted pads, heavy poly or plastic wrap, etc.
- Stretch wrap does not provide protection for your goods. The purpose of stretch wrap is to hold the items together on the pallet. Pallets are moved on and off trailers with a pallet jack or forklift and sometimes with the assistance of a power tailgate.
