Tips: Choosing the right box

All Terrain Vehicles
Drain gasoline and disconnect the
battery. A retailer of these items usually has the packing materials
required and normally provides the preparation service for a nominal
fee.
Artwork - Paintings, Statues, etc.
A gallery usually has the
packing materials required and normally provides the preparation
service for a nominal fee. Wrap small pieces in blankets. Large
pictures should be wrapped with protective pads and placed on end in
cartons.
Barbecues
Clean, dismantle and pack individual parts in boxes. Propane tanks can not be transported and must be moved separately.
Books
Use small boxes-books are heavy. Alternate rows, bound edge to open edge.
Bread Maker
Clean well. Remove any loose parts and label separately. Coil the cord and fasten to the appliance.
CD Player
The original packing box your system came in is
always the best choice. Protect your equipment to avoid damage from
vibration or movement during transport. If you do not have the original
box, substitute with a sturdy box of equivalent size and protect with
bubble wrap or other packing material to fill any gaps between the
outer edge of your equipment and the inner side of the box.
Coffee Maker
Clean well. Remove any loose parts, pack and label separately. Coil the cord and fasten to the appliance.
Computer, Monitor, Printer, Scanner
The original packing box
your system came in is always the best choice. Protect your equipment
to avoid damage from vibration or movement during transport. If you do
not have the original box, substitute with a sturdy box of equivalent
size and protect with bubble wrap or other packing material to fill any
gaps between the outer edge of your equipment and the inner side of the
box.
Convection Oven
Clean well. Remove any trays or racks, pack and label separately. Coil the cord and fasten to the appliance.
Crystal and Stemware
Wrap the stem first, then the whole
piece. Use a protective material like bubble wrap. Place each item
upside down in a divided carton and be certain to use lots of padding.
Mark boxes "FRAGILE".
Dishes
Wrap each dish in polyfoam or clean white packing
paper and place on end in the box. Make certain each row is snug so the
dishes will stand up straight. Use lots of padding.
Dishwasher
Have a plumber disconnect, drain and service. Fasten the power supply cord.
Dryer
Have an electrician disconnect the dryer if direct
wired. Use protective tape to secure knobs and door. Fasten the power
supply cord.
DVD Player

Glasses and Cups
Wrap individually and place upside down in
the box. Some handles on the cups may need an extra layer of wrapping
for added protection.

Kitchen Items
Keep cutlery in drawer divider and wrap in
clean white packing paper. Wrap bottles and preserves individually in
plastic bags and place upright in a sturdy box. Be certain to use lots
of padding to avoid breakage. Use small boxes to pack canned goods. The
box weight should not exceed 50 pounds. Open boxed or bagged dry goods
should be sealed with packing tape and placed in your packing boxes in
an upright position.
Lamps
Dismantle and label the parts, then place them in a
bag. Put lamp and parts in the same box. Pad with throw cushions or
shredded paper. Lampshades can be stacked and packed in a separate box.
Lawnmowers
Drain gasoline, remove handle and clean well.
Mattresses
To ensure your box springs and mattresses are kept
clean and dust free, be sure to completely cover them with plastic and
use packing tape to seal. Or, you can purchase mattress covers from
local moving supply companies.
Medicine Cabinet Items
Be certain not to pack any items you
may need during the move. Secure all caps and wrap each bottle in a
plastic bag. If bottles are glass, be certain to protect them with
padding material to avoid breakage.
Microwave
Clean well. Remove any trays or racks, pack and label separately. Coil the cord and fasten to the appliance.
Mirrors
Wrap small pieces in blankets and place in cardboard
boxes. Wrap large mirrors with protective pads and place on end in

Silverware
